Caribbean Battery Recycling (CBR) was started in April 2006 and is the  brainchild of
Mr  Aldwyn Clarke and Mr Richard David.
CBR collect expired lead acid batteries regionally from landfills, automotive,industrial, marine, telecommunications, commercial and residential customers, and other smaller battery collection operations.
At CBR we then sort and pack these batteries on pallets, shrink wrap, weigh and record these pallets, after which they are loaded onto 20ft containers for export to a smelter in Puerto Rico. Where their primary export is refined lead and other
materials recovered in the process of recycling industrial and
consumer lead/acid batteries.
More than 95 percent of every battery can be recycled. Nearly all of
the lead containing battery components such as the posts, internal
grids, oxides, and other lead elements of the battery can be recycled
through a series of steps.

The batteries are taken apart and drained of their battery acid
through a hammering and grinding process in a machine called an MA21.
Through gravity, the heavier lead separates from the rest of the
materials. The plastic is then separated and the acid is collected
with water and further processed to recover additional lead particles.

The lead and the oxide recuperated from the recycling process is smelt
in a rotary furnace to obtain pure lead and.

The raw lead then gets melted in kettles to further remove impurities
and purify the lead for distribution around the world.

Raw lead for new products
The smelter exports recycle refined lead as raw
material to companies worldwide for use in the following types of
products:

   * Automotive products
   * Ballast for boats
   * Batteries
   * Fishing weights
   * Lead radiation shields for medical and dental use
   * Munitions
   * Wheel weight balances
   * Others
   * Custom mixed alloys

Other byproducts
Additional battery byproducts, such as the acid from the recycling
process and the plastic from battery casings, is sold to other
companies for use in battery manufacturing.

We are currently looking to forge alliances with interested parties to collect batteries throughout the caribbean islands.
